When is it a good time to let kids use Internet without restrictions?

Being a parent in these modern times of ours isn’t easy. Letting small kids loose on the internet could end up damaging them quite badly. There’s some pretty weird stuff available online that I’m not sure small kids should be seeing. That’s why I put up restrictions, filters, that make it less likely for kids to access dangerous websites. Question that I’d like to tackle today is when should these restrictions be lifted? At what age do you lift the internet access “training wheels” for small kids?

When is it a good time to let kids use Internet without restrictions?

Most accurate answer to this question would be that it depends from kid to kid. It is your duty as a parent to determine when the best time to lift the restrictions would be, after seeing how they are normally behaving on the computer, and also in school or when out with friends.

From the purely “what age should kids be allowed access to porn, gambling, drugs or whatever worse things internet has to offer” standpoint, I guess an acceptable age should be around 15 years old. Let’s face it, they are going to be exposed to these things later on in life either way. I’m not saying you force feed them porn, like some parents do with cigarettes. Just 15 seems like an appropriate age for them to get their privilege of viewing the internet without restrictions, for everything that it has to offer. Again, for some kids it could be sooner, depending on what your estimate as a parent is.
