PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES (THE REUNION POSTS BEGIN)

March 6, 2012

the huckleberry and i have been on an absurd number of airplanes these days and huck is saintly and sweet each time. lucky mama! recent tallies have it at over twenty flights we've taken so far. twenty flights! all of which he's been a perfect gentleman on from start to finish, and most of which we've taken dad-free. i just refuse to count any higher, though, and as such we are never leaving manhattan ever again. and thus it was spoken.

the last four of our plane rides were so we could attend a family reunion out west. at this point huck is such a pro on the plane that we should consider investing in one for all of our family outings. he should be given bronzed wings! his own pilots license! anyway, it beats the torture of a car ride with huck in tow. shoot. huck can be sweet and patient and lovely as could be for a full 13-hour travel day through various take offs, landings, and airport layovers, but the minute he's in a car he is screeching like a possessed demon. geez, kid! get it together!

warning:
i never love it when other bloggers document their vacation in multi-part posts,
(skim skim skim)
and yet i am about to do just that, right here.
all of my deepest apologies in advance.

here we go, lovin family reunion part one!
wherein i document huckflight no. 21 for posterity's sake.
i do hope posterity appreciates it. ;)

enormously beautiful views of manhattan and the hudson bay out our window on take off.

huck promptly falls asleep for the duration of the flight.
(do you see his perfection here?)

sharing a blue bell treat during our layover at dallas/fort worth.

we unexpectedly get a full row to ourselves on the second leg of our trip.
huck sits happily with his bag of pretzels the entire time.

not pictured:
the drive to the coast afterward where huck shouted at me for a full hour and a half.

and then it was time for disneyland and long, sunny days on the beach!
(posts to come!)

buying a plane. i mean, this is reasonable, right? ;)

  2. Weird about Huck and the car. My Jacob is the same way! Has been since we took him home from the hospital. My family live three hours by car from me so... however he does enjoy planes. Go figure! Great pictures by the way.

i'm one of those annoying "multi-post bloggers..." but i blame it on taking too many pictures. i feel overwhelmed!

  11. Great pics! The Blue Bell Ice Cream brought back memories. I used to live in Dallas, and Blue Bell was the ONLY ice cream! Don't have it out west though!

  12. Girlfriend, I am so with you on the angel in the plane versus the man-beast in the car. Silver lining is that it's turned me from a hater of flying into a complainer that airlines really need to start serving small rural towns where my family people live...

  13. Looks like a fun trip so far! Those shots of NYC are what made me fall in love with the city when I was young and visited for the first time - so happy to have called it home now for 5 years. I share your annoyance with multi-part travel posts but it's so hard to get it down in one and I can't stand blog posts that drag on and on. I'm very behind in getting my multi-part posts up on my trip to Nigeria with my toddler. I have 3 up so far and about 5 more to go. Fun times!

  17. Hehe, You always make me laugh!! I totally {skim skim skim} vacation diaries sometimes, too...but not today :) Huck sounds like he was {mostly} a total dream; I mean seriously, he looks so well-behaved on the plane (People magazine and pretzels do it for me everytime, too!)

  18. i am over the moon jealous he travels that well. nuff said.

  19. I had to laugh...Your post brought back a few travel with baby memories. Has Huck every blessed you with a super stinky diaper while flying?! How exactly do you change a diaper on a plane?

  20. So cute! And it's really great that he is a good traveller. Not just for your sanity but everybody else's. Nothing is awful like sitting in front of a screeching baby. Although I know the parents can't help it, it's still awful.

But, I mean, why else could you expect out of Huck? He seems like the biggest saint of a baby ever born into existence.

Minus the whole car thing, you know.
