One Hand In The Air For The Big City

me and my city, back when i was just a baby




On Wednesday of last week, we sold our house.

On Thursday of last week, we started packing our boxes for DC.

But then on Friday . . .

. . . on Friday, The Holbs went and got himself accepted to NYU. It's the top school for his program in the country. And after all, when you are a Holbs of a certain Holbsiness, you would never settle for second best if you knew you could have the very very best.

And so we are not moving to D.C. after all, like we were on Thursday.  Now we are moving back home, back to New York City.

We are PUMPED.

  2. wow althought DC would probably be more of a calm place to raise a baby NYC definitely sounds like a lot of fun. When I first found your blog through blogs of note I read a lot of your archives of when you lived there because your stories were so funny and entertaining. When we moved we actually hitched a trailor to our truck because U-Haul charges you per mile so I don't think driving would save you much. The trailor is just a bit nerve wrecking because it can move independently sometimes but we did it from southern AZ to northern CA just fine! : )

  3. The best advice I have for you is get an amazing baby carrier. Then you don't have to deal with strollers. That's how I ended up with a 30 lb two year old strapped to my chest.

    One of my friends lives in an amazing building in midtown, but it's not near union square.. but if you want the info let me know!!

    You will SO be able to find a place with laundry in the building.. I know a ton of people who don't have doormen who have laundry facilities. Any place nice enough to have a doorman also has laundry.

  4. oh and when he's big enough you should totally send holbsbaby to the Barnard Toddler Center! It's an awesome program.

    I'm a sucker for the upper west side, so if you end up around there, give me a holler! I just spent four years living there.. but now I'm back in the burbs

  5. Yay! You are moving to my stomping ground! NYC rocks and you will LOOOOVVEEE it! There is always something to do. More fodder for you hilarious spin on life. I suggest upper east side- (not the bougie upper east side, unless you have a huge trust fund somewhere) there are certain areas that a very family friendly and less pricey.

    SO COngrats. ok I've already told you this. I'm excited for you. and jealous. has hard and crazy as it would be for me and my situation now- I would love to live in NY for a while- see that lifestyle. what an experience. But you have already done it....so are YOU excited happy overwhelmed or ug,overwhelmed? I cant tell which one you are. None-the-less I can't wait for your bloging and pictures from there, hear your stories...and there better be pics. even of your place ok?! miss ya.

  16. I have a feeling your blog is going to be beyond interesting to me now. (It already is, but you get my drift. Right?) In other words, Chicago is the biggest city I've been to while visiting my aunt, but I have no idea what it would be like to live in such a place, or an even bigger place. I pray it all works out for you. :)

  18. This is a great excuse to buy the most expensive/fancy stroller known to man (read: Bugaboo) because it will essentially be your car! My friend says that bad boy turns on a dime.
