Thoughts

I've been thinking a lot lately about this little blog and this overwhelming desire I feel to create, to notice beauty in all things, and I've decided I've been going about it all wrong. I've been seeing the beauty, and then bypassing it here for silly, self-indulgent missives. I want to make this a place for the beautiful things I see every day, and a motivation for me to create more, instead of a dumping ground for things no one is really interested in (including me). So I'm going to try that, a little. What do you think?

That said, I guess I have to talk about Twilight first, don't I?

Well. Shannon and I got to WalMart at 10:45 for the midnight opening. I guess we figured we'd walk around the Mart, maybe buy some toilet paper or something, and then at midnight go and get the movie. I guess Shannon and I were on crack when we figured this out because that is so not how it went down.

The Moscow WalMart closes at 10, and at 10:45 when I pulled up there were employees all over the place, setting things up, moving things around, and there I was, the only person in the entire parking lot, and I was all, oh dear. Then Shannon showed up looking too stinking cute for a WalMart parking lot with her giant soda to keep her awake (old! we are old!) and we sort of stood there in the cold parking lot for a few minutes wondering what was up, until finally a manager poked his head out to tell us where the line would be. I could tell he regarded us as the most pathetic things he'd ever seen because the look on his face mirrored the look on mine and the look on Shannon's. We are here in the middle of the night for what now? So then we stood on line. Every few minutes a packed car full of girls would drive by, and I could tell they were scoping the place out. Then finally some other girls showed up, and they proceeded to entertain the pants off me for the next hour. By 11:30 there were something like 30 kids waiting on line; unwashed 15-year-old girls and their icky boyfriends, all touching each other and leaning on each other and Shannon and I wondered again, what the crap are we doing here? And then an entire SUV full of gay guys got out on the line and instantly our outlook brightened. If the gays are here, it must be cool. And then the cops showed up. And then the cops left.

At three minutes till the manager opened the doors and let us all in, and then all of the sudden it was bedlam, and the entire city of Moscow seemed to be there, and it was all, movie! board game! tee shirts! calendars! and I didn't know what to look at so I grabbed the first DVD I saw and then also there was a middle aged woman eating pint of Ben & Jerry's and we were all, genius! Then we payed, walked to our cars and went, uhhh, okay. Then we drove home.

And then I watched the movie on Saturday with the audio commentary on, figuring I should watch it at least once since I went to all that trouble, and actually, when Robert Pattinson pointed out a continuity error in the first five minutes and then went on to exclaim, "Don't mind my sweaty skin, Bella!" during the meadow scene, well, that's when I knew it was worth all the trouble.

You stay awesome, Robert Pattinson.

Some pictures:

Shannon, cuter than anyone has a right to be.

Line entertainment. The one on the right had not seen the movie yet and had only read to page 100.

Setting up inside.

Security measures. I don't know.

The cops show up. I don't know.

The line gets long-ish.

Buy the movie! Buy the movie!

In some ways, this reminds me of when me & my friend, Megan, went to see "Crossroads" (the movie) and snuck in mimosas and because it was opening weekend, it was sold out and they made us all move closer to the center of the theater to find open seats and there was a 12 year old boy sitting next to me and he was with his Mom and the whole opening scene of Britney bouncing on her bed made me feel embarrassed for him - you know, having to watch it with his Mom and all.

oh how i enjoy a photo montage, especially those involving pre-teen girls.

wait. that sounds creepy.

um

i retract.

australia, australia was waaaaay worse. because it was two movies. and long. so very looooooooooooooong.

twilight is at least mindless entertainment, no real investment required.

Oh my... what an adventure. And I love that you think the same things as me!!! When we walked out, I totally thought "Uh, yeah. That was kind of anti-climatic... Guess I'll go home and go to bed now..." But YAY! I got to spend an hour+ in a line with hormonal teenagers and YOU! and that was the most fun.

So what will our next adventure be, my dear?

And PS. Ryan really liked the movie.
